I still honestly believe this may be for the best. Oppo provides free content to provide clicks for ads, for only the cost of a server. A server that already existsfor one of the most popular automotive sites out there. Sony wise business person will keep us around or sell us to someone that will.

The best part of all is that he will likely never get another career in “journalism” ever again. So he not only lost all his money, but wasted 4 years of his life and a ton of money getting a now-useless slip of paper.

Also I find it hard to believe that he only had $1,500 in his bank account. I’m guessing that he transferred it offshore once he knew he was fucked.

They’d be able to make some, but not consistently or predictably (there’s no regularity to when Oppo makes a good/shareable post), and it would open up a few issues. For example, there would be the issue of GM making money off of articles that the author isn’t getting paid for (some would certainly take issue with that). And a bigger issue, the occasions where someone on here uses a photo found on the internet without citing source or getting permission.

I hadn't really thought about how murky it could get. There are people out there that could probably figure something out to make it work. Based on what you said I would think they would have to follow a style like social media sites would use. I'm not smart enough to figure that stuff out personally.

Yeah, it could get real hairy real fast. Monetizing Oppo would take a lot more work than just adding ads, and the rules that would likely have to be put in place would ruin a lot of the fun and freedom that we come here for.

The only way to keep it impartial would be to not have any ads freom any car manufacturers at all....Not sure that would fly so well when we see nothing but ads from unrelated products and services.

Hell, impartiality and conflicts of interest is a whole different kettle of fish, I was just talking about the issues that would pop up with monetizing Oppo in general. (In case it wasn’t clear, by GM I meant Gawker Media, not General Motors)
